Compass — the largest residential real estate brokerage in the U.S. by sales volume — was in the middle of one of the most aggressive expansion periods in its history, entering over 10 new markets including Hawaii, North Carolina, and beyond. Scaling a brand that fast, across that many diverse markets, required more than great design. It required a system.

Challenges

The 2021 expansion exposed the limits of the existing approach: missed deadlines, siloed departments, and a design process that couldn't keep up with the pace of hypergrowth. Launching each new market was slow, inconsistent, and left too much room for error.

Roles

I directed the creation of a modular design system purpose-built for market launches — covering everything from brand campaigns to founding customer announcements, with a flexible copy system that could be adapted across every market without sacrificing brand cohesion. The result: new markets launching in under half the time it previously took, with significantly less margin for error.
